“Go Isaac!!” yelled the crowd. ‘Finally, for the first time, I have a real chance of beating my nemesis, Andy Tan’, thought Isaac as he moved through the water with his powerful butterfly strokes.
When he broke through the water to take a deep breath, he realised that he was only five metres from finishing the final lap. It fired him up and he used every ounce of energy for the last 5-metre dash.
With less than a metre from the edge of the pool, Isaac’s right foot hit the lane rope and he lost his momentum. In a moment of panic, he stood up to regain his balance and it was at that moment that buzzer sounded.
He stared in disbelief as Andy had once again won the school swimming meet. Isaac hit the water with his fist in frustration as Andy waved to the crowd with a grin plastered on his face.
Andy waded towards Isaac and laughed cruelly, “Better luck next time, mate.”
